While walking around the area, we ran into a school, with loads of little kids milling around. After the first ones ran away from us "strangers", they all started having second thoughts once the cameras came out. Lots of the kids would say "Hello!".

The SWARM!!! These kids seem real friendly. Red scarves around some of the kids' necks (like the little boy in front-center) indicate membership as a Young Pioneer of the Communist Party

Last night (9/15/05), our group and Genie shared a "family style" Chinese dinner in one of the hotel restaurants. The food was all excellent, but I didn't really like the "steamed eggs" (almost like a custard consistency). The locally brewed Baisha beer was pretty good. I'm sampling another bottle (640ml, about 24 oz.) tonight (9/16), since I don't want to jump to any hasty conclusions. Here was the spicy green bean dish.

This morning, I woke up at 4AM. Rather than waste the time, I took some night shots of Changsha from our hotel room window, using my Sony DSC-V1 camera plus a mini tripod. The dancing practice on the square below doesn't start until 7AM. There are also large water tanker type trucks that come through & spray the main streets clean VERY early in the morning.

The next website update will include photos taken during a trip to the Hunan Embroidery Research Institute, plus a VERY special trip I took with the cab driver I nicknamed "Mad Max."

Just tonight, Zoe has started pulling herself up on our luggage, plus the sides ofher crib. She took a few steps, while "cruising" along the edge of the crib. She'll be walking/running in no time!

This morning was spent filling out numerous forms to permit Zoe into the USA. We will leave Changsha tomorrow afternoon for Guangzhou...not sure about website updates till after that.
